Look what they did!

Chinsegut Hill in Brooksville, Florida is special for many many reasons. One of them is the extraordinary visitors that came there to find rest, inspiration and collaboration on the estate. As we celebrate Women’s History Month, I will be featuring one female Chinsegut visitor a day. They include writers, inventors, scientists, church leaders, politicians, civic leaders, and philanthropists. They dreamed big and achieved big.

One of the women is former Florida First Lady May Mann Jennings. Born in New Jersey, the Mann family moved to Florida for May’s mother’s health.

A few years ago, someone dropped off portraits of unknown subjects at the Hernando Heritage museum. Research connected the paintings to May’s family. Get the details by watching this link of a Florida’s Adventure Coast video.

Another fascinating visitor is Helen Barrett Montgomery, the first woman to translate and publish the Bible’s New Testament from Greek.

Cara Burch appears several times in the Chinesgut guestbook. She is most famous as the subject of John Singer Sargent’s “Miss Cara Burch” painting.

Throughout this month, we’ll be featuring one woman a day on our Elizabeth Robins Diary Podcast Facebook page. All of these women impacted the world in their time in ways that still impact us today. Check it out and be inspired!

P.S. If you want to make a donation for the restoration of the Mann paintings, check out their tax-deductible giving options.

Onward and Upward!
